Thousand Oaks, California is a master planned community located in the Conejo Valley, 39 miles northwest of Los Angeles, and about 12 miles east of the beaches. It was incorporated in 1964. This City gets its name from the hundreds and hundreds of old oak trees growing along the rivers and creeks meandering through the valley on their way to the blue Pacific.
You will find many new home developments, modern schools and parks, commercial centers, business and industrial parks, recreational centers, banks and financial offices, sports fields and transportation centers incorporated into its master plan. The city offers all the modern amenities and conveniences of the big city, yet retains its rural atmosphere and small town feel and family friendly environment. It has large shopping malls, many movie theatres, an active Civic Arts center and consistently ranks as the first or second safest large city in the United States.
